Q: A stack of 5 cards has the numbers 1,3,5,7,9 on them. They are placed face down and one card is pulled out, the number noted and placed back again. Which one of the following is a possible total sum, after six such draws? Give reasons.
(i) 4 (ii) 19 (iii) 27 (iv) 28 (v) 60
Sol :
1,3,5,7,9 all are odd numbers, we know sum of six odd numbers will result in even number. So 19 & 27 is not answer as these are odd numbers.
Smallest card is 1. If 1 is pulled out all the six times, then our result will be 6. This means minimum result is 6 so 4 is not answer.
Largest card is 9. If 9 is pulled out all the six times, then our result will be 54. This means maximum result is 54 so 60 is not the answer.
Now only one option remained 28.
So the possible total sum is 28.
